I arrived here late and had a delicious fish soup with traditional Hortobagy pancakes. Delicious. Also, they have German and Czech beer

Ladó Café

My hotel gave me a great discount for this breakfast menu, and I am glad because this is a cafe I will find next time I return to Budapest. The breakfast was big and perfect way to start the day. At night it doubles as a Jazz Cafe. I'd love to see that.

Túró Rudi

The locals are very proud of their "Túró Rudi". It is a very strange sweet indeed. It's a small chocolate covered treat, and the inside is a creamy filling, bit like cheesecake. Did I like it? Well, before I caught the bus home, I bought FIVE! :D

Another fine historic cafe in Budapest. The Central Cafe has been serving up fine food and amazing sweets since 1887. I always come here for coffee and cake when I'm in Budapest, and I hope you do the same.

    Budapest street food

I went to Budapest at Christmas, so I was spoiled for choice. I tried hard to be a 'typical tourist' and go for 'typical Hungarian food'. Therefore, I had Langos, Goulash in Soup and Beef pancakes.

      Tésztafeszítő Kisiparos

      • Kis Rókus utca 16-20, Budapest

I was lucky enough to find these guys in the Christmas markets in Budapest. I believe they are mobile, so I hope you are lucky as i was, or maybe you can locate them via facebook? Worth the effort - best Langos I have ever had.

      Budapest National Gallery

      • 1014 Budapest, Szent György tér 2

Far from the best gallery I have visited but still worth a look - especially just to be in this wonderful building high atop the Buda side of the river, in what used to be a palace.

      Budapest Eye

      • Erzsébet tér

      Budapest Eye

      • Erzsébet tér

Also known as Sziget Eye, this was a very special part of my christmas holiday. As I learned with the London eye, these things are best viewed at night.

        Hungarian Parliament Building

        • Budapest, Kossuth Lajos tér 1-3, 1055 Hungary

It's impossible to NOT see the parliament building, though I recommend you should see it from a river boat. I was especially happy with the RED hop-on-hop-off bus company

City Tour Hop on, hop off

I cannot recommend this higher. It's a great way to see the city and opportunistic way to get from A-B with audio guide included. The highlight of this tour is the river cruise. Well worth the money and would definitely do again.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath and Swimming Pool

            • Allatkerti korut 9-11, Budapest 1146, Hungary

This is the perfect place to relax after walking around Budapest for a few hours and days. I went in the christmas holidays, so after walking the chilly streets, freezing to the bone, it was amazing to strip-off, down to my speedos and RUN for the bath :O
